London offers exceptional experiences

  • London welcomed 20 million international visitors in 2024, who spent approximately £17bn.[24]
  • Visitors reach London via 395 direct destinations, with roughly 1,500 daily flights – the highest in Europe.[25]
  • London’s experience economy – including culture, events, sports, attractions, retail and hospitality – is booming, with up to £10bn planned for investment over the next 10 years, from hotels to attractions.[26]
  • London ranks above New York City as one of the best cities for a theatre break.[27]
  • Many visitors are drawn to London by its profile in film and television. 87% of those visiting a film or TV location in the UK choose to head to the capital, with two in three of these setjetters visiting London locations only.[28]
  • London has 80 Michelin-starred restaurants[29], as well as more than 16,000 others catering to all tastes.[30]
  • The city boasts more than 550 museums and public and commercial art galleries[31], including globally renowned institutions such as the National Gallery and Tate galleries, which attract visitors from around the world.
  • London is the sporting capital of the world, home to seven Premier League football clubs and with a strong track record of staging the biggest and best international events, including Wimbledon, UEFA Champions League finals, the London E-Prix, London Athletics Meet, Major League Baseball (MLB) and National Football League (NFL) regular season games.
  • London is a global hub for women’s sport, home to iconic teams like the Red Roses (England’s women’s rugby team) and the Lionesses (England’s women’s football team), as well as world-class venues such as the Queen’s Club tennis grounds – with more than one million fans attending events in the capital in 2025.[32]

London provides top-quality education

  • London’s primary and secondary schools are ranked the best in England.[33]
  • England’s schools scores for mathematics and reading were significantly above the OECD average in the latest (2022) PISA rankings.[34]
  • London has more than 40 universities, including four of the top 100 universities in the world[35] and the top two arts schools in the world: the Royal College of Art and University of the Arts London.[36]
  • London is also home to 56 further and adult education colleges[37] with more than 232,000 adults (19 years old and above) participating in education and training programmes in London in 2024-25 – the most of any English region.[38]

London is green – and blue

  • London is one of the world’s greenest capitals with more parks than any other city in Europe.
  • London is the world’s first National Park City with nearly 50% green and blue space.[39]
  • The city operates the largest zero-emission bus fleet in western Europe.[40]

  • London has a new 10-year economic strategy, the London Growth Plan, aligned to the UK’s national Industrial Strategy.

Frontier innovation is about discoveries and inventions – making scientific breakthroughs and turning them into commercial products and services – and London is an originator at the frontier of innovation.

Life sciences

  • London is no.1 in Europe for life sciences and attracts the most venture capital investment.[46]
  • London is home to more than 2,700 life sciences companies, three of the world’s top 15 universities for health and clinical science, and 19 of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies.[47]
  • On the global stage, London stands as the top city outside the US, attracting more investment in 2025 than Shanghai ($880m), Tokyo ($308m) and Singapore ($325m) combined.[48]

Artificial intelligence

  • London ranks no.1 globally as a source city and no.2 as a destination city for AI-related foreign direct investment.[49]
  • International business leaders consider London one of the world’s most supportive cities for developing artificial intelligence.[50]
  • Leading global AI companies that originated in London or have chosen the city for expansion include DeepMind, OpenAI, Scale AI, Mistral and Nvidia.

Quantum

  • The UK ranks second worldwide for the number of companies[51] and levels of private investment in quantum computing.[52]
  • The UK is a leading centre for quantum research – it ranks third globally for the impact of quantum research and the UK also has the highest concentration per capita of talent relevant to the quantum sector.[53]
  • The UK leads Europe for the number of quantum startups, more than double the number of any other European country.[54]

Green innovation

  • London was one of the first cities in the world to publish a climate plan compatible with the highest ambition of the Paris Agreement, as well as committing to being net zero carbon by 2030 and zero waste by 2030.[55]
  • London has Europe’s highest concentration of climate tech startups at 1,147.[56]
  • Worth £48bn and growing, London’s green economy has created 161,000 new jobs over the last decade.[57]

  • From architecture and data science to blockchain and construction, London has one of the world’s most diverse talent pools for proptech. The city boasts more than 195,000 employees in the property sector and a further 200,500 employees working in construction.[59]
  • London is home to two of the world’s top 50 universities for engineering and technology – Imperial and University College London (UCL) – plus UCL's Faculty of the Built Environment, The Bartlett.[60]

Smart mobility 

  • The Mayor of London has set out a sustainable transport in London strategy that aims for 80% of journeys to be made by walking, cycling or public transport by 2041, as well as a goal for the capital to be zero carbon by 2030.[61]
  • Smart mobility in London is leading the way in smart ticketing, contactless payments and open data. The city has “the best public transportation system in the world”[62] coupled with an integrated transport agency, Transport for London (TfL).
  • The Mayor of London has committed to delivering a 100% zero-emission bus fleet in London by 2030. The city already has the largest zero-emissions bus fleet in western Europe with more than 2,000 buses operating across the capital.[63]
