Travel Trade Overview

The canals made the industrial revolution possible and led to Britain becoming a great industrial nation. The museum tells the story of the canal in London and their people, horses, cargoes and trade.

Visitors can squeeze into a tiny cabin of a type that was once home to a whole family, and listen to oral history that illustrates their way of life. They can learn about canal engineering, see archive film and discover the traditional arts and crafts of the waterways.

The museum can help tour operators to arrange boat trips in conjunction with a museum visit, or a walk on the towpath led by a museum guide, as part of a longer day's programme that lets the visitor see a different side to London.
