Anne Morrison, the current Chair of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), has been appointed to the board of London & Partners, the Mayor’s official promotional company for London.
Anne Morrison, who was appointed Chair of BAFTA last year, brings with her a wealth of experience from the creative industries. Before that, Anne enjoyed a long career with the BBC where she rose to be Controller of Documentaries and Contemporary Factual, leading the creation and production of the some of the UK’s best loved factual television programmes. Until last year she was Director of the BBC Academy overseeing all of the Corporation’s training across journalism, production and technology.
Sir Edward Lister, Chairman of London & Partners said: “Anne has unrivalled experience leading some of the country’s best known creative organisations. She is a shining example of someone who has risen to the top of her profession through dedication, hard work and vision. The creative sector is a key driver of jobs and growth in the capital so I am absolutely delighted that Anne has agreed to share her knowledge and experience with London & Partners as we continue to promote London’s creative, cultural and knowledge industries.”
Anne is the second woman to chair BAFTA, having been involved with the organisation for more than six years previously as a member of the Television Committee, chairing the Learning and Events Committee and serving on the Board of Trustees. She is also a trustee of the Charleston Trust, Deputy Chair of the Watersprite International Student Film Festival and a former chair of the TV Council for Creative Skillset. She is a frequent speaker on issues such as leadership development, creativity, diversity and higher education and is a trained executive coach.
Commenting on her appointment Anne Morrison said: “London & Partners produces some outstanding work promoting the capital on an international stage and I’m honoured that I will be able to contribute to that. London’s creative sector both produces, and is a magnet for some of the finest talent in the world. It’s vital that together we continue to champion the amazing work being produced here as well as the opportunities on offer in London.”
More than half a million people are employed in the creative industries in London and the sector generates more than £20 billion for the economy. The industry is also a key driver for tourism. Later this year VisitLondon.com, in partnership with the GREAT Britain Campaign, will launch its 2nd annual international campaign to promote the impressive breadth of cultural activities happening across the capital. It will include blockbuster exhibitions, performances, and festivals, during the upcoming Autumn Season.
London’s Autumn Season will showcase to the world the incredible season of culture coming to the capital, taking in the world-class events that strengthen the city’s reputation as a global cultural powerhouse.
