London starts the summer with a win at inaugural 50+awards

In a pre-Olympic success story, London has won silver at the inaugural 50+ Awards.

The awards showcase the very best in life for those aged 50+, and are based on online nominations from the active over 50s who visit the annual 50 Plus Show at London Olympia.

London was nominated for the accolade of Best 50+ UK Day Out and Best 50+ UK destination.  The capital was awarded silver for the prestigious award for ‘Best 50+ UK day out’, just pipped to the post by the London attraction Kew Gardens. The National Trust completed the medal positions achieving a bronze.

London gained a further podium place and more silver for the trophy cabinet in the ‘Best 50+ UK destination’ with Cornwall gaining gold and York bronze awards.

Over 6500 voters casted a total of 211,465 votes in 53 categories. The highly anticipated Gala Awards reception took place on Friday 13 July, during the three day 50 Plus Show at London Olympia.

When speaking of London’s recent success, Louisa Jackley, UK Leisure Tourism Marketing Manager said: “We are delighted with this award voted for by visitors and hope that London’s victory at the 50+ Show is the first of many in a this summer in the capital.  There has never been a better time to visit the capital as there is always something new for visitors to enjoy.”
