The 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships took place at London’s Lee Valley VeloPark in the Velodrome from 2-6 March. The championships were deemed "the biggest and best track cycling event yet” by British Cycling director of cycle sport and membership Jonny Clay. With 319 riders competing from 42 countries, it saw Great Britain topping the medal table in front of a sell-out crowd.
What we did
1/ Alongside the owners of the venue and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park we assessed feasibility and the business case for staging the event and agreed terms for supporting the bid
2/ With British Cycling and UK Sport we led the creation and presentation of the formal bid to the UCI.
3/ Following the success of the bid we were members of the stakeholder board, assessing the event, and the marketing and communications group.
4/ We supported the marketing campaign to international and domestic audiences through Visit London digital channels and also designed and built the official event website www.trackcyclingworlds2016.london
5/ We promoted the city within the presentation of the event via London brand integration and evaluated the brand impact for the city partners
